A c o n c u r r e n t R E S O L U T I O N

To encourage the Governor and various public entities to recognize Workers Memorial Day.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE SENATE CONCURRING):

WHEREAS, April 28th was designated as "Workers Memorial Day" by the 118th General Assembly in remembrance of the victims of workplace injuries and disease and in recognition of the need for strong safety and health protections in the workplace; and

WHEREAS, Many instances of workplace injury, disease, and fatality continue to occur annually; and

WHEREAS, According to the 2023 Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses, the incidence rate of non-fatal occupational injuries and illnesses total recordable cases for public and private Ohio establishments was estimated to be 2.2 cases per 100 full time equivalent workers, and in 2025 the Bureau of Workers' Compensation honored 57 workers who had died in the previous claim year; and

WHEREAS, There should be greater awareness of workplace safety and greater attention given to the contributions of Ohio workers; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 136th General Assembly of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, encourage the Governor to issue an annual proclamation recognizing Workers Memorial Day that calls upon Ohioans to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage state agencies, political subdivisions, schools, and civic organizations to observe Workers Memorial Day through education and awareness related to workplace safety; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Governor of Ohio and the news media of Ohio.
