A R E S O L U T I O N
To support the City of Cleveland, Ohio, in its offer to host the 2030 Special Olympics U.S.A. Games.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, Special Olympics is a global sports movement that unleashes the human spirit every day around the world through the transformative power and joy of sport; and
WHEREAS, The Special Olympics U.S.A. Games celebrate athletes with intellectual disabilities by focusing on inclusivity, empowerment, and community through diverse sports competitions and supportive programs; and
WHEREAS, The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community; and
WHEREAS, The City of Cleveland is a top contender to host the 2030 games; and
WHEREAS, The Special Olympics U.S.A. Site Selection Committee has toured the city and the venues that would be involved with hosting the games in 2030; and
WHEREAS, The final decision to be announced this spring is down to Cleveland or Nashville; and
WHEREAS, The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission has already recruited over 10,000 volunteers five years out; and
WHEREAS, The money raised already from corporate leaders, over $10 million, is unprecedented, and shows an extreme commitment from the community; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of the State of Ohio, support the City of Cleveland in its offer to host the 2030 Special Olympics U.S.A. Games; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to Special Olympics North America, 3712 Benson Dr., Raleigh, North Carolina 27609, and to the news media of Ohio.
