To urge the United States Department of Justice to expedite work to connect the national crime information center (NCIC) and NamUs databases.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, In 2022, the federal Help Find the Missing Act, otherwise known as Billy's Law, was signed into law and requires the United States Department of Justice to connect the national crime information center (NCIC) and NamUs databases to allow the automatic transfer of missing persons case information between systems; and
WHEREAS, The Ohio Missing Persons Working Group recently conducted an examination of missing persons investigations to determine how to better increase the number of successful missing persons investigations and reunited families, and found no evidence that the automatic transfer of cases between NCIC and NamUs is occurring; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, The House of Representatives of the state of Ohio urges the United States Department of Justice to expedite work to connect the NCIC and NamUs databases as required by Billy's Law; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the United States Attorney General.
