A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring Tallmadge Church on its Bicentennial.

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Tallmadge Church on the memorable occasion of its Two Hundredth Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, This is an important milestone, and celebration is certainly in order. Built by Lemuel Porter to house the Congregational Church of Tallmadge and dedicated on September 8, 1825, Tallmadge Church is a Federal-style structure featuring a two-story portico with four large columns and a one-hundred-foot-tall steeple with a copper weathervane. The building was donated to the Ohio History Connection in 1971, two years after its congregation moved to a new edifice, and today, it is managed locally by the City of Tallmadge, which rents it out for weddings and events; and

WHEREAS, Those who have nurtured and sustained Tallmadge Church merit praise for their remarkable initiative, diligence, and resolve. With a wealth of vision and vitality, they have shown how very much can be accomplished by a group of conscientious, industrious people, and they can be proud that their unflagging commitment to education and history has made it possible for the structure to survive; and

WHEREAS, Tallmadge Church has enhanced the quality of life within the surrounding area, and its contributions to the local cultural heritage have earned it the gratitude and respect of the entire community. We are certain that this noteworthy landmark will remain a fine representation of the area’s past for years to come; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate Tallmadge Church on its Two Hundredth Anniversary and extend best wishes for the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Tallmadge Church.
