A R E S O L U T I O N

Recognizing National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Ohio, April 19-25, 2026.

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to acknowledge April 19-25, 2026, as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Every person deserves to feel safe in their home, school, workplace, and community. Yet each year, millions of Americans from all socioeconomic backgrounds fall victim to acts of violence, theft, fraud, and other crimes. Indeed, such events often leave significant long-lasting physical, psychological, and economic repercussions, not only for victims and their families but also for society as a whole; and

WHEREAS, In an effort to recognize and validate the impact of crime as well as to endorse the establishment of meaningful enforceable rights and resources and pay tribute to crime victims and those who assist them, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week was first proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1981. Over the years, this cause has continued to make slow but steady progress, gaining widespread support from leaders of all political affiliation; and

WHEREAS, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Ohio provides a unique opportunity for Ohioans to recommit to the work of preventing crime, supporting victims in healing, and holding offenders accountable. Clearly, we must continue to ensure that all those impacted, both directly and indirectly, are treated with dignity and respect, provided access to support and services, and have the ability to protect and seek enforcement of their rights; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize April 19-25, 2026, as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Ohio and urge all citizens to familiarize themselves with this important issue; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio.
