A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring The Ohio State University Brutus Buckeye mascot team as the 2026 UCA and UDA National Champion.

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate The Ohio State University Brutus Buckeye mascot team on winning the Division IA mascot competition at the 2026 Universal Cheerleading Association and Universal Dance Association National Championship; and

WHEREAS, This remarkable accomplishment is a fine tribute to The Ohio State University Brutus Buckeye mascot team, for they put together a tremendous skit for Brutus Buckeye to perform at this year’s Universal Cheerleading Association and Universal Dance Association National Championship and were richly rewarded with this year’s Division IA mascot title, their first win since 2019. Indeed, they have demonstrated both enthusiasm and school spirit, and the performance they created reflects the initiative and talent that have come to distinguish the Buckeyes; and

WHEREAS, A national championship such as this provides the perfect opportunity to reflect on the legacy of Brutus Buckeye and to applaud each and every student who has put on the mascot uniform and contributed to his success over the years. The dynamic efforts of all those associated with The Ohio State University Brutus Buckeye mascot team, including its coaches, Ray Sharp and Tim Thiel, have helped establish Brutus as an international icon and a recognizable symbol for The Ohio State University and our state as a whole, and they can certainly take pride in their achievement; and

WHEREAS, The Ohio State University continues to thrive thanks to the impact of people like those behind the Brutus Buckeye mascot team, and we celebrate them all for their outstanding contributions to this important institution. We look forward to seeing what they accomplish next, and we are confident they will continue to shape the culture of The Ohio State University; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend The Ohio State University Brutus Buckeye mascot team as the Universal Cheerleading Association and Universal Dance Association National Champion; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to The Ohio State University Brutus Buckeye mascot team.
