A R E S O L U T I O N

Highlighting the importance of the United States founding documents, including the Constitution of the United States, in establishing the rights and privileges of citizens and residents.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

WHEREAS, The Constitution of the United States is a foundational document of the country establishing the rights and privileges of citizens and residents; and

WHEREAS, The First Amendment guarantees to all people of the United States the right to free speech, the right to peaceably assemble, and the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances; and

WHEREAS, The Fourth Amendment guarantees to all people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures; and

WHEREAS, The Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments guarantee to all people the due process of law; and

WHEREAS, The Fourteenth Amendment guarantees the rights of all persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof; and

WHEREAS, The Immigration and Nationality Act establishes the procedures and requirements for lawful entry into the United States, and the rights and privileges granted to immigrants; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of the State of Ohio, call for a reminder of the importance of these foundational documents; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of the State of Ohio, call for education on the importance of the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights to be a priority for all citizens of the state; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to all members of the Ohio Congressional delegation.
