A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team on winning the 2026 Division V State Championship.

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team as the 2026 Division V State Champion; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team are exemplary athletes, and they have shown themselves to be truly remarkable competitors. In culminating their 24-4 season, the Lady Trojans outscored the squad from Ottawa-Glandorf High School 53-48 to secure the 2026 Division V State Championship, their second consecutive state crown. The unwavering commitment of the players and coaches has earned them the esteem of many, and they are certainly deserving of high praise; and

WHEREAS, Coach Amy Hughes has demonstrated remarkable energy, enthusiasm, and dedication in guiding the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team to victory, and her skill is reflected in the squad's outstanding accomplishments. Due largely to her tireless efforts, the members have distinguished themselves on the court, and she has received respect and admiration from all who know her; and

WHEREAS, In an educational system that seeks to teach the future leaders of our state and nation the fundamentals of self-reliance and the rewards of individual and group effort, athletic competition has become a valuable tool. By taking part in sports, the members of the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team have gained discipline and perseverance that will help them in all aspects of their lives; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, pay tribute to the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team as the 2026 Division V State Champion and honor all those who contributed to the success of this fine squad; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team.
