A BILL
To enact section 109.561 of the Revised Code to require the Attorney General to establish a violent offender registry and to name this act "Sierah's Law."
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That section 109.561 of the Revised Code be enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 109.561. Not later than December 31, 2017, the attorney general shall establish and maintain a state registry of violent offenders. The attorney general may determine the types of violent offenders and the information to be included in the registry, as well as the means by which that information is to be obtained.
A person who is convicted of or pleads guilty to any of the following offenses may be included in the registry:
(A) A violation of section 2903.01, 2903.02, 2903.03, 2905.01, or 2905.02 of the Revised Code;
(B) An attempt or conspiracy to commit, or complicity in committing, any offense listed in division (A) of this section;
(C) Any other offense of violence the attorney general considers necessary to include in the registry.
The attorney general may adopt any rules necessary to implement this section under Chapter 119. of the Revised Code.
The violent offender registry is a public record open for inspection under section 149.43 of the Revised Code.
The attorney general may incorporate the violent offender registry into the state registry of sex offenders maintained under Chapter 2950. of the Revised Code or into the registry of arson offenders maintained under sections 2909.14 and 2909.15 of the Revised Code.
Section 2. This act shall be known as "Sierah's Law."
