Representative Rogers

A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring the City of Wickliffe on its Two Hundredth Anniversary.

WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to the City of Wickliffe on the auspicious occasion of its Bicentennial; and

WHEREAS,  This is truly a momentous milestone, and it provides the ideal time to acknowledge the meaningful history and significant achievements of the City of Wickliffe. In 1817, its first residents arrived at Cleveland Public Square before relocating to what is now Wickliffe, where the settlement grew to include a hotel, houses, farms, and a school house. After nearly a century of flourishing as a precinct in Willoughby Township, Wickliffe was incorporated as a village in 1916 as the residents worked toward building a progressive and strong community. In the following one hundred years, Wickliffe underwent tremendous change and weathered numerous challenges, including growing to add a city hall, police and fire departments, and a branch of the U.S. Postal Service, succumbing to the Great Depression before the community banded together to sell the fruit of its farms’ labors, and triumphantly expanding after World War II thanks to the manufacturing industry and to the arrival of new families; and

WHEREAS,  The City of Wickliffe radiates vitality, optimism, and a charm all its own, and its schools, businesses, and civic organizations both embody and thrive upon the values of which our flag is an emblem. A vigorous commitment to public service and an earnest devotion to lofty ideals have long been second nature to its residents, and vigilance, industriousness, and generosity have come to typify their collective character; and

WHEREAS,  Throughout the past two centuries, the City of Wickliffe has enjoyed the benefits of a generous and civic-minded population, and without question, those who currently make the area their home can take great pride in their community and its rich heritage. Their ongoing efforts have certainly had a profound impact, and we applaud them for their commitment to responsible and dedicated citizenship; therefore be it

RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commemorate the City of Wickliffe on its Bicentennial and offer our most sincere wishes for its perennial good fortune; and be it further

RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the City of Wickliffe.
