A R E S O L U T I O N
Honoring Harry Shoop on receiving the Order of the Purple Heart.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Harry Shoop on being presented with the Order of the Purple Heart and three other medals, August 7, 2017; and
WHEREAS, A truly remarkable individual, Harry Shoop was wounded while engaging in combat action in the battle of Zig Zag Pass in the Philippines during World War II. He has received the Order of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Combat Infantry Medal for his heroic actions in the line of duty, and his willingness to fight for our country’s democratic ideals is a measure of his faith in our nation; and
WHEREAS, America owes a debt of gratitude to those citizens who have answered the call to arms, and the legacy of commitment that Harry Shoop established will remain forever in the hearts of all who know him. A lieutenant colonel retired from the U.S. armed forces after thirty-one years of service, he has exhibited exemplary patriotism, responsible citizenship, and exceptional bravery, and his outstanding record of service will long stand as a hallmark worthy of emulation; and
WHEREAS, It is imperative that we openly express our debt to the patriots who have served honorably in America’s armed forces, bearing this country’s standard with courage, dignity, and decency. Too many in our nation take for granted our precious rights and privileges, never adequately considering the enormous costs so frequently exacted in conjunction with the fulfillment of military obligations. In every respect, Harry Shoop has behaved in an exemplary manner, and his numerous accomplishments are likely to impel others to re-examine their own identities as American citizens and to reflect more conscientiously on our incomparable freedoms and solemn duties; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud the brave and loyal conduct that earned Harry Shoop special recognition and salute him as a fine Ohioan; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Harry Shoop.
