A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring Dakota Elliott on winning the 2018 Division I State Championship in the 200-yard individual medley.

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to celebrate Dakota Elliott as the 2018 Division I State Champion in the 200-yard individual medley; and

WHEREAS, A diligent and capable individual, Dakota Elliott is deserving of acknowledgement for her exemplary accomplishments as a member of the Upper Arlington High School girls swim team. An exceptional athlete, she placed first in the 200-yard individual medley, her second consecutive state title in that event, with a time of 1:58.78 at this year’s Division I State Meet, where she also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 4:52.78 and helped the 200-yard medley relay team place fifth with a time of 1:44.31, and her noteworthy record of personal achievement stands as a hallmark for others to emulate; and

WHEREAS, Through her participation in swimming, Dakota Elliott has learned important lessons of discipline, perseverance, hard work, and good sportsmanship that will undoubtedly be of great benefit to her throughout her life. Through her outstanding efforts, she has inspired countless people to excel in various areas of endeavor, and she has set an example worthy of recognition; and

WHEREAS, In a society that seeks to teach the future leaders of our state and nation the fundamentals of self-reliance and the rewards of individual effort, athletic competition has become a valuable educational tool. With sports playing such an important part in the development of our young people, we are extremely pleased to pay tribute to such a fine athlete as Dakota Elliott; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud Dakota Elliott on her brilliant 2017-2018 season and offer best wishes for continued success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Dakota Elliott.
