A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring Raelene Harris for heroism.

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Raelene Harris for the heroic efforts she displayed in saving the life of a young boy; and

WHEREAS, A junior at Ontario High School and a student at North Central State College, Raelene Harris is a remarkable individual, for she has displayed an exceptional presence of mind and a degree of altruism of which she can be proud. While on duty as a lifeguard at the Ashland Area YMCA swimming pool on February 4, 2017, she assisted an off-duty Mansfield police officer in rescuing an unresponsive child from the water, and working together, she performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim until he resumed breathing. Her actions merit the esteem of the entire community and have distinguished her as a truly responsible citizen; and

WHEREAS, At a time when many people are content to take a passive role in life, Raelene Harris has willingly involved herself in helping others, and her efforts demonstrate an exemplary combination of humanitarian concern and commitment as well as selfless initiative. Her actions show the potential of every person to have a positive effect on the quality of life in our society, and she is deserving of acknowledgement; and

WHEREAS, Raelene Harris’ character serves as a reminder that altruistic behavior is not a thing of the past but is a value that is exhibited in daily life by individuals such as she. Her unflinching composure in the face of danger has identified her as a genuine hero and a tenacious Samaritan; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Raelene Harris for her heroism and salute her as an outstanding Ohioan; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Raelene Harris.
