A R E S O L U T I O N

Recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Ohio, October 2018

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize October 2018 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Through the systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, and economic control or abuse, the crime of domestic violence violates an individual’s privacy, dignity, security, and humanity, and children who grow up in violent homes are believed to be abused and neglected at a rate higher than the national average. It has negatively impacted countless lives, and it is our responsibility to help break this cycle of violence; and

WHEREAS, Domestic violence affects people of all races, ages, income levels, and sexes, and only a coordinated community effort will put a stop to this terrible crime. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is an appropriate time to lend support to those whose lives have been devastated by this heinous crime; and

WHEREAS, Domestic Violence Awareness Month is certainly a noteworthy occasion, for it will provide the residents of our state with an opportunity to learn more about alternative options for victims of this abuse and will increase public awareness of the need for more programs to prevent domestic violence. We applaud all those who have played a role in bringing attention to this important observance; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 132nd General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize October 2018 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Ohio; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio.
