A c o n c u r r e n t R E S O L U T I O N

To designate February 11, 2020, as James Buster Douglas 42:1 Odds Day.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING):

WHEREAS, James "Buster" Douglas, born April 7, 1960, grew up in Columbus, Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Douglas attended Linden-McKinley High School and played on the Linden-McKinley Class AAA state basketball championship team in 1977; and

WHEREAS, Douglas boxed professionally from 1981 until 1999, and retired with a record of thirty-eight wins, six losses, one draw, and one no-contest; and

WHEREAS, Mike Tyson had a record of thirty-seven wins and zero losses before facing Douglas, and was widely considered unbeatable; and

WHEREAS, On February 11, 1990, when Douglas challenged heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in Tokyo, Japan, Tyson was so heavily favored that only one Las Vegas casino, the Mirage, made odds for the fight, and had Douglas as a 42 to 1 underdog; and

WHEREAS, Douglas knocked out Tyson in the tenth round of that fight becoming the undisputed world heavyweight champion; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 133rd General Assembly of the State of Ohio, designate February 11, 2020, as James Buster Douglas 42:1 Odds Day; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the news media of Ohio.
