A c o n c u r r e n t R E S O L U T I O N

To urge the Governor and the Director of Transportation to provide for the extension of I-73 and I-74 into Ohio.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE SENATE CONCURRING):

WHEREAS, Ohio currently has eight primary interstate highways running through it that provide easy access to the interstate system for most Ohioans. However, it is imperative that Ohio improve mobility and connectivity for goods, services, and Ohio's workforce to all regions of the state; and

WHEREAS, The Federal Highway Administration has plans to connect the south central portion of Ohio to the Interstate Highway System via the extension of Interstate 73 and Interstate 74 (I-73 and I-74); and

WHEREAS, To complete the extension of I-73 in Ohio, U.S. Route 52 between Huntington, West Virginia and Portsmouth, Ohio will be upgraded, and U.S. Route 23 through Columbus to I-75 near Findlay will be upgraded; and

WHEREAS, I-74 is proposed to be extended from Cincinnati to Portsmouth, and several routes are being studied as the most suitable to accommodate this extension; and

WHEREAS, The extensions of I-73 and I-74 through Ohio will allow further development opportunities that will economically benefit millions of Ohioans; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 134th General Assembly of the State of Ohio, urge the Governor and the Director of Transportation to provide for the extension of I-73 and I-74 into Ohio through the use of appropriations and federal funding; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives send duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the Governor, Director of Transportation, Executive Director of the Federal Highway Administration, and the news media of Ohio.
