A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring the Kiwanis Club of Lakewood on its Centennial.

WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 134th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate the Kiwanis Club of Lakewood on its One Hundredth Anniversary; and

WHEREAS,  Over the years, all those associated with the Kiwanis Club of Lakewood have consistently demonstrated exemplary professionalism and expertise, as well as an unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of children. Established in 1921 with eighty-three members, the club has experienced tremendous growth over the past century, including opening to women in the 1980s, and it has expanded to include more than two hundred active participants; and 

WHEREAS,  The Kiwanis Club of Lakewood has distinguished itself as a noteworthy organization, and it is certainly deserving of high praise for its fundraising efforts through numerous hot dog and donut sales, pancake breakfasts, and the famous Lakewood Pizza Bake-off at Lakewood High School. This special anniversary offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the association’s tradition of success and to look with optimism to the future; and

WHEREAS,  It is not surprising that the Kiwanis Club of Lakewood has achieved widespread recognition, for it has far surpassed the expectations of its charter members. Among its achievements, the organization is responsible for the creation of the Kiwanis Picnic Pavilion at Lakewood Park, the all-weather track at Lakewood Stadium, and the community sign in front of the old Board of Education Building on Warren Road. In addition, it provides scholarships for local seniors, distributes books to area children, and supports various community service and leadership programs, including 4 KKids Clubs, a Builders Club, and the Key Club. Clearly, this fine endeavor exemplifies the essence of the American spirit, and it has set a standard to which other such civic groups can aspire; therefore be it

RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 134th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend the Kiwanis Club of Lakewood on the occasion of its One Hundredth Anniversary and salute its members as some of Ohio’s finest citizens; and be it further

RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Kiwanis Club of Lakewood.
