A R E S O L U T I O N

To urge the U.S. Congress and the U.S. President to support the PROTECT Our Children Act of 2022.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

WHEREAS, The PROTECT Our Children Act, originally passed in 2008, authorized the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program, a national network of 61 coordinated task forces that represent 3,500 federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies engaged in reactive and proactive investigations across the country; and

WHEREAS, The ICAC aids local and state law enforcement in the creation and implementation of effective responses to technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and internet crimes against children; and

WHEREAS, In order to develop effective response strategies to online child victimization, the ICAC offers guidance on victim support, forensic and investigative components, training and technical assistance, and prevention and community education; and

WHEREAS, The PROTECT Our Children Act of 2022 (S.4834 of the 117th Congress) reauthorizes through fiscal year 2024 the ICAC Task Force Program; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 134th General Assembly of the State of Ohio, urge the Congress of the United States to pass the PROTECT Our Children Act of 2022; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 134th General Assembly of the State of Ohio, urge the President of the United States to sign into law the PROTECT Our Children Act of 2022; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the President of the United States, the Speaker and Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, the President Pro Tempore and Secretary of the U.S. Senate, the members of the Ohio Congressional delegation, and the news media of Ohio.
