A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring the Mahoning Valley Historical Society
on its Sesquicentennial.

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to the Mahoning Valley Historical Society on its One Hundred Fiftieth Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The spirit of our nation is founded upon, and reflected in, its exciting and colorful past, and the memorializing of significant landmarks, artifacts, and people is vital to the preservation of America’s unique heritage. Formed at the second annual Pioneer Reunion Ball in 1875, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1909. Despite ebbs and flows of interest, it has grown and acquired historic properties and other facilities, including the Arms Family Museum and the Tyler History Center as well as the Stewart Media Archives, to store, preserve, and display its collections. Over the years, the society has welcomed countless visitors, and its numerous exhibits continue to prove both enlightening and inspiring; and

WHEREAS, As the leadership, staff, and volunteers of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, including its executive director, H. William Lawson, celebrate this milestone, they can reflect with pride on the accomplishments of the past and look forward to a rewarding future. Their exemplary efforts have helped to foster awareness and understanding of the area’s rich history, and it is through the work of citizens such as these that Ohio continues to be a pleasant place to call home; and

WHEREAS, Through its various projects and programs, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society has helped to preserve the legacy of the region. Indeed, the organization is to be applauded for its tremendous efforts to ensure that the important details of our past are transmitted to future generations for their appreciation, and we are confident that, in the years to come, it will follow in the tradition of excellence that has long been its hallmark; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate the Mahoning Valley Historical Society on the occasion of its One Hundred Fiftieth Anniversary and offer best wishes for ongoing success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Mahoning Valley Historical Society.
